JOINED OXFORD COMMUNITY SCHOOLS
September 2014

Welcome to my classroom! My name is Mr. Jahlas, and I am the Band Director at Oxford Middle School.  I've been teaching at Oxford since the Fall of 2014.  I completed my student teaching at North Farmington High School, where I was recognized as one of two "Teachers of Promise"by Central Michigan University.  I believe every student can learn music, and should have the opportunity to do so. My music program provides a safe place for students to become risk-takers and to develop their musical skills while pushing them to be at their very best all of the time.

I currently live in Highland, MI with my yellow lab, Macey. In my free time, I enjoy reading, listening to music, learning about penguins (my favorite animal!), and cheering on my CMU Chippewa football team.  I also write music and drill formations for several marching bands around the state, including our own Oxford High School Wildcat Marching Band. During the summer, I serve as the Assistant Director of the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps, where I help 150 young men travel around the country to perform professional marching shows for various audiences.
