Dear OMS Parents and Guardians,
On Monday next week, Oxford Middle School will conduct a brief safety drill. The primary objective is to familiarize staff and students with hearing messages through speakers that are part of a new mass notification system and practice scenario responses. Please note that the system's lights will not be used during this drill.
The drill will be categorized as a "Hold," which means students and staff will remain in their classrooms or current locations. Hallways will be cleared, doors will be locked, and normal activities within the room will continue. The drill is expected to take 5-10 minutes and will not disrupt their daily routines.
Safety drills are a critical part of our emergency preparedness, ensuring everyone knows how to respond if needed. Our goal is to keep the environment calm and supportive throughout the process. Prior to the drill, teachers will guide students through a lesson to review procedures for various emergency situations and introduce the new public address system. This will help ensure students feel prepared and understand what to expect during the drill. Additional information about the Standard Response Protocol can be found through this link.
If you have questions or believe your student may experience significant distress due to this drill, please reach out to your building principal as soon as possible to discuss accommodations.
Thank you for your continued support,
Sincerely,
Oxford Community Schools
