Dear Oxford Middle School Families,
Oxford Middle School is committed to supporting academic progress and students' social, emotional, and behavioral growth.
Again this year at OMS, we will be completing a universal screening tool to assess the academic, social, and emotional learning skills of all students. The Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener (SAEBRS) is a tool that measures common behavioral criteria in Social Behavior, Academic Behavior, and Emotional Behavior. The data will be used internally to look for trends across the school and grade levels and to develop instructional next steps to support students. As with all student data, we maintain strict levels of confidentiality.
In the next few weeks, both students and teachers will use SAEBRS. The screener will ask students 19 questions (questions are below). This will take place in Advisory on October 11th. The screener is taken on a Chromebook and will last no longer than 10 minutes. In addition, each student will have one teacher complete a rating scale for him/her. To complete each SAEBRS item, the teacher will indicate how frequently the student has displayed each behavior (as described within each item) during the previous month.
Students and teachers are not new to screeners. At OMS, we use FastBridge/STAR for reading and math three times a year. This data is collected to help plan academic interventions and accelerated classes for students.
No student will be required to complete the SAEBRS screener and there is no penalty for students who do not complete the survey. We just ask that you complete this form by 10/9/24 if you want to opt your student out from taking the 2024 Social, Academic, Emotional, Behavior Risk Screener (SAEBRS).
Thank you,
Brad Bigelow, Principal
