International Baccalaureate (IB) provides the framework of challenging academics and rigorous assessment that is embedded into our curriculum while adhering to state and national standards. The IB framework is based on its three fundamental concepts: holistic learning, intercultural awareness, and communication.
HOLISTIC LEARNING demonstrates that all knowledge is interrelated and shows the interconnections between the various subject areas. Holistic learning also promotes the development of the total person--academically, artistically, physically, socially, emotionally, and ethically--attributes that are described in the IB Learner Profile.
INTERCULTURAL AWARENESS or international mindedness promotes the exploration of other cultures are reflected in the learner Profile. Not only do students learn about other social, national, and ethnic cultures, but also more about their own and thus develop a greater appreciation of their culture. This leads to building understanding and respect of others.
COMMUNICATION in the MYP is of utmost importance both in verbal and non-verbal formats. Communication is fundamental to learning. Language is integral to personal development, cultural identity, and intercultural understanding. MYP students develop their own language as well as another. All teachers are viewed as language teachers by IB.
