Feb. 11, Social, Academic, Emotional Screener Info

Dear OMS Families,

Oxford Middle School is committed to supporting academic progress as well as students' social, emotional and behavioral growth.

For the second time this year at OMS, we will be completing a universal screening tool to assess the academic, social, and emotional learning skills of all students. The Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener (SAEBRS) is a tool that measures common behavioral criteria in Social Behavior, Academic Behavior, and Emotional Behavior.  The data will be used internally to look for trends across the school and grade levels and to develop instructional next steps to support students.  As with all student data, we maintain strict levels of confidentiality.

Next week, both students and teachers will use SAEBRS.  The screener will ask students 19 questions (questions are below).  This will take place in the geography/history classes the week of February 14.  The screener is taken on a Chromebook and will last no longer than 10 minutes.  In addition, each student will have one teacher complete a rating scale for him/her.  To complete each SAEBRS item, the teacher will indicate how frequently the student has displayed each behavior (as described within each item) during the previous month.

Students and teachers are not new to screeners.  At OMS, we use FastBridge for reading and math three times a year.  This data is collected to help plan academic interventions and accelerated classes for students.

No student will be required to complete the SAEBRS screener and there is no penalty for students who do not complete the survey.  We just ask that you complete this form by 2/14/22 (6th grade), 2/15/22 (7th grade), 2/17/22 (8th grade): CLICK HERE to opt out from your child taking the Winter 2022 Social, Academic, Emotional, Behavioral Risk Screener (SAEBRS).

Should you have any questions, please let me know via email at the address below.  Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to support our students.

Sincerely,

Dacia Beazley, Principal
