May 24, OK2SAY Tip Investigation Completed

Dear OMS Families,

We wanted to update you on the investigation of the OK2Say tip received late yesterday regarding an OMS student. OMS School Resource Officer and OMS administration have spent a great deal of time investigating the concern reported on the tip line with the students and families involved. After a thorough investigation it has been determined that the threat is non-credible. Please understand that in investigations and possible discipline situations we are limited in what we can share due to FERPA and other privacy laws.

Please families, remind your students of the gravity of their words as we are hypervigilant in this highly sensitive time.

As a reminder, the following situations are when we have committed to communicate with you regarding school safety as shared on the FAQ’s page of the website:

· A direct, specific, plausible threat is made

· A situation interrupts the school day for a significant number of students

· A situation arises that requires emergency vehicles to report to the school

· A realistic image of a personal firearm is discovered

Additionally, we want to reassure you the helicopters currently flying in the Oxford area are not related to anything within the school district. Thank you for your understanding and concern. We appreciate everyone’s assistance in keeping our school safe.

Sincerely,
Oxford Community Schools
