May 26, OMS: Walkout Update

Hello,

We would like to give our families an update on the Students Demand Action National Walkout that occurred at noon today.   We supervised approximately 140 OMS students as they left the school building and gathered at the OMS field.  Staff available during their lunch period, along with school and district leadership, and multiple Oakland County deputies, were able to help maintain student safety.

For clarification, there was never any discussion of punitive measures for students who participated today.   If students chose to walk out, they received an absence in PowerSchool for 4th hour because they were not in class.  8th graders were at lunch during this time.  Upon entry to the building at 12:30 pm, students were checked in at the main office while all other doors remained locked and supervised.

Please address any individual questions to OMS administration at the email addresses below.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Dacia Beazley, Principal
