Dear Oxford Middle School Families,
I wanted to take another opportunity to provide you with an update pertaining to the rumored reports heard at school about a shooting and/or possible gun being brought to school.
At this time, no new details have emerged that weren't already shared with you from my correspondence this morning. Specifically, our investigation did not substantiate either a primary source to the rumors nor did it identify anyone who might have heard this directly from someone. No new information has been reported.
As stated in a previous communication, there was increased security personnel on site today. Our students have a scheduled early release day on October 28th (tomorrow) and these increased safety measures will stay in place not only tomorrow, but through next week as well (the week of October 31st). These safety measures include checking backpacks, sports bags, instrument cases, lunch boxes and other student belongings. We have increased the number of staff members at each student entry point to assist in this process. Each entry point also includes armed personnel. Please help us by communicating these procedures with your student. We will communicate with you should these increased safety measures continue past next week.
Earlier this evening our district sent out a notification detailing plans of the implementation of the Evolv Kiosks at Oxford Middle School. This will include the installation of two Evolv weapons detection systems that will be placed at the OMS main entrance and at the gymnasium entrance. Both of these locations serve as the only entrances for students as they arrive to school. We will be sure to keep you posted on the arrival of the Evolv Kiosks and an opportunity to attend a presentation and demonstration.
