September 1, Chromebook and Laptop Insurance

Dear Oxford Families of Secondary Students,

Oxford Community Schools highly encourages our families of secondary students (6 -12 grade and OSEC) to purchase optional Chromebook or Laptop insurance coverage for the 2023-2024 school year. The insurance is offered by the district and covers accidental damage including:

  • Cracked screens
  • Drops
  • Liquid spills
  • Power surge
  • Vandalism
  • Flood
  • Fire

This insurance could potentially save parents and students costly repairs or replacement. Typical repairs/obligations to a Chromebook, for example, range from $50 for a hinge cover to $100 for a broken screen to $190 for a new system board. The full cost of a replacement should irreparable damage be done is approximately $350 for a Chromebook and approximately $700 for a laptop.

Cost of Insurance

  • Chromebook insurance costs $25 per student.
  • Laptop insurance for our CTE and OSEC students costs $75 per student.

The insurance is only available for purchase throughout the month of September. Without purchasing the optional insurance students (parents/guardians) will be responsible for any and all repair costs or full replacement should the device become irreparable.

The optional insurance can be purchased through the Oxford Community Schools e-Funds for Schools.  The link can be found on our website under the For Parent & Students tab. The optional insurance tabs are individually labeled within the Oxford e-Funds account: “Pay for Chrome book Insurance” and “Pay for Laptop Insurance”.  If you do not already have an e-Funds account, please see the attached directions for assistance in setting your account up.

For additional information please reference the Oxford Community Schools Chromebook Handbook. If you have any further questions, contact the Director of Curriculum & Instructional Technology, Gary van Staveren: [email protected]

Thank you for your consideration,
Oxford Community School
